With an open heart, Dina always gave. She gave her wisdom, her love, her home and with her bright, big smile she gave us her comfort. In our happiest moments as well as our darkest, her gentle yet so impactful presence was there. She was smart, passionate, creative and humble. Physically she only had two hands, but spiritually, she gave hundreds. Whether you were a stranger or blood related, she wouldn’t hesitate to offer her support. In February 2020, Dina began her battle against cancer. It had started in lining of her stomach and had spread to her bile duct and liver. She shared this heartbreaking experience with William, her Godson who much like Dina, blessed us with so many eye opening, life lessons. After one year and 4 long months fighting, she left us to enter the gates of heaven on August 3rd 2021. Throughout that year, just like the rest, she never complained, and constantly showed us what real strength looks like. She appreciated every little moment she was given and touched every soul she met. As a manager case worker for the family and community services, she gave every single day, and saved the lives of many. To the world she was a mother, but to us she was our world. A hero who’s heart was set on this planet to make a difference. Her legacy will live on and her story will never be forgotten. Forever tattooed in our hearts.
William is remembered as a young man with a vibrant smile, contagious laugh and charming personality. He was intelligent, quick-witted, kind, selfless and had a zest for life. Above all, he was an amazing listener. His unique boldness, warmth and the genuine interest he displayed when engaging with people around him helped build lasting relationships. He had a caring, loving attitude that touched and impacted many lives. William accomplished a double degree in Law and Commerce and after a placement at Legal Aid, was drawn to help disadvantaged people who could not afford a solicitor. However, in February 2019, at the age of 23 William was diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer (GBM). He faced this uphill battle with dignity, grace, perseverance, and determination. Throughout his journey, William’s unwavering faith in God inspired all who crossed his path. He may not have understood God’s plan, but he accepted it. In March 2021, after four craniotomies, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, William left this Earth, surrounded by his closest friends and family. William’s legacy continues to live on in all those that knew him. He is forever missed, forever loved and forever in our hearts.
